Region: Lake Geneva Region (Vaud)

A fun-filled weekend for families on the Montreux Riviera, with flower hikes, walk through the famous terraced vineyards, a boat ride, panorama views from a mountain top and beautiful sunsets over the lake. Details for all our activities in this post.
This summer we visited the lovely Yverdons-les-Bains in western Switzerland, where we hiked to a beautiful cliff ridge, explored the largest cave system in Switzerland, cooled off in the lake with pedalos, relaxed at the thermal baths and wandered the charming old town.
Ride a cogwheel train to the highest point overlooking Montreux, where you can peer over the cliffs, visit an alpine flower garden, and make friends with the resident marmots.
One of the prettiest places to enjoy the narcissus flowers near Montreux, with the dense blooms set against panorama views across Lac Leman and the surrounding mountains.
Hike to the top of a mountain peak overlooking Montreux and Lake Geneva.
This chocolate factory near Gruyères in western Switzerland has a fun multimedia tour, free samples, chocolate workshops, Escape Game, and a fun playground to get your wiggles out.
The easiest flower hike near Montreux to see the narcissus blooms (wild daffodils) in late May. Accessible by car or train and an easy hike with lots of places to picnic.
Walk through the Lavaux terraced vineyards along Lake Geneva, enjoying panorama views and wine tasting. Shorter route and shuttle bus options as well.
See all the fun winter activities for families we tried in this beautiful alpine resort in western Switzerland, including night sledding, thermal baths, a winter walk, a crazy toboggan fun park and of course, lots of snowboarding.
This lively Christmas market on the beautiful shores of Lake Geneva has lots of fun extras for children, making it a great choice for a special family weekend.
Aquatis is the largest freshwater aquarium in Europe, full of interesting creatures from all over the world. We particularly liked the quirky creatures and colorful interactive displays that made learning fun. The adjacent hotel and close public transport make it an easy and convenient family outing.
This campground has beautiful views, a fun pool, a separate grassy area for tents, and provides easy access to lots of mountain resorts in the Gstaad area, a bit too far for a day trip from Zurich. We stayed there so we could visit Glacier 3000, where you can do an easy walk on a glacier without a guide.
